THOMAS (TOM) CHRISTENSEN, B.SC, CSEP-CEP

Hi! I consider myself fortunate to have enjoyed being physically active for as long as I can remember. Now I find joy in helping others develop positive relationships with physical activity, exercise, and moving their bodies. I love watching people having fun with exercise and enjoying the many benefits that come from better fitness and health. When I'm not doing Kinesiology work, you'll find me playing outside, cooking (would you believe I used to be a pizza chef?), reading, playing guitar, moongazing, or working on my Master's thesis.

I completed a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Applied Health at the University of Winnipeg and became a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer in 2013. After working as a Certified Personal Trainer and Registered Kinesiologist in a variety of settings (group classes, personal/partner/team/small group training, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular rehab), I decided to become a CSEP Clinical Exercise Physiologist to increase my scope of practice, certifying in 2019. This allows me to work with people across the full spectrum of health, disease, disability, and performance. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Kinesiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax and working as a TA helping the next generation of Kinesiologists learn their craft.

I do personal training at the Canada Games Centre. Training can happen in one-on-one, partnered/semi-private, and small group (3-5) settings. I can also set you up with a program that you can do on your own. I would love to meet with you to discuss which option might be best for you and how I can help you improve, maintain, or/and enjoy your health and fitness. Connect with me here, find me on the gym floor, or inquire at the Canada Games Centre.

All roads lead to Rome!

I also help out with the Dalhousie Women's Hockey, Women's Soccer, and Men's Soccer strength and conditioning programs. It's so much fun to be around the energy of young athletes and help them learn how to train safely and effectively to improve their in-game performance and injury resilience.

I also lead exercise classes for people affected by cancer in the ACCESS and EXCEL research programs. It's a ton of fun and extremely rewarding. I started the Exercise for Life [online exercise] classes for participants who wanted to keep exercising when the program ends and to create a fun, safe exercise space for anyone who wants to improve, maintain, or enjoy their health and fitness.

I truly enjoy exercise and the ordinary and not-so-ordinary things that a certain amount of fitness allows me to do. I can't promise to make you love exercise as much as I do, but I will do everything in my power to help you enjoy the process of improving and maintaining your health and fitness. Or at the very least not dread it!

💪🙂👍
